Free From Growth Hormones

We have recently received some enquiries from concerned customers regarding the use of growth hormones in pet food.

As with all artificial additives, concerns have been raised about the safety of such chemicals. Not only are the meat-producing animals themselves at risk, but also those who consume them. In addition, the land and water can be adversely affected by contaminated faecal residue.

Fortunately, in the UK, Australia, New Zealand and throughout the EU, hormone growth promoters are illegal in all farm animal species. The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) undertake regular testing on feed, serum and urine in order to ensure that the law is upheld.

In addition, meat imported to the UK for human consumption from overseas is subject to strict trade restrictions. The main issues have arisen from the US beef industry, where the use of growth hormones is not illegal and still rife.

All of the meat ingredients used in the Arden Grange recipes are fit for human consumption and free from growth hormones. Our poultry is reared in the UK and our lamb in New Zealand, and we use NO "meat or animal derivatives".
